Party affiliation: Democrat
Election date: November 7, 2017
The National Center for Transgender Equality Action Fund endorses Danica Roem for Virginia House of Delegates. Roem ran against incumbent Del. Bob Marshall, who has demonstrated a strong prejudice against transgender people, most evident in his introduction of anti-transgender “bathroom ban” legislation. After her election Roem became the first openly transgender person to serve in the Virginia House.
Roem worked as a reporter for over a decade. She most recently served as the news editor at the Montgomery County Sentinel after working at the Gainesville Times and Prince William Times.
