Last night, Danica defeated her opponent, 26-year incumbent Del. Bob Marshall. In January, she will become the first transgender person in the United States to serve in a state legislature.

Danica Roem

Running for: Virginia House of Delegates, District 13
Party affiliation: Democrat
Election date: November 7, 2017

The National Center for Transgender Equality Action Fund endorses Danica Roem for Virginia House of Delegates. Roem is running against incumbent Del. Bob Marshall, who has demonstrated a strong prejudice against transgender people, most evident in his introduction of anti-transgender “bathroom ban” legislation earlier this year. If elected, Roem would be the first openly transgender person to serve in the Virginia House.

Roem has worked as a reporter for over a decade. She most recently served as the news editor at the Montgomery County Sentinel after working at the Gainesville Times and Prince William Times.
