Launched in 2017, the National Center for Transgender Equality Action Fund is a 501(c)(4) non-profit advocacy organization fighting for transgender equality at the local, state, and federal levels. The Action Fund is affiliated with the National Center for Transgender Equality, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2003.
In the past 25 years, transgender people in the United States have stepped out of the shadows and opened legal, educational, economic and social opportunities for themselves in a short amount of time despite incredible odds. At the heart of these changes has been the belief in the self-worth, the equal treatment, and the fundamental right of transgender individuals and their families to participate with dignity in the future of this nation.
These incredible changes in a generation have profoundly impacted the lives of transgender people, but serious threats at local, state and federal governmental levels now seek to reverse these hard won victories. Transgender people face a staggering amount of discrimination due to both anti-trans policies and negative public perception. In recent years, a wave of anti-trans bills fueled an explosive increase in national attention around transgender issues. In 2017 alone, 50 such bills were introduced.
The National Center for Transgender Equality Action Fund is committed not only to defending and preserving every advancement but also pressing for more social and policy progress in the United States for all transgender people. By organizing and empowering transgender people their families, and all people who believe in transgender equality to make their voices heard and count, the Action Fund creates new possibilities for transgender people, shaping the course of history through political participation and influence.
